Mezzanine Flooring

Add a freestanding steel floor to your Derby warehouse and use the extra space to drive extra profit.

How does installing mezzanine floors in a Derby warehouse boost profits?

Right now, the earning potential of your warehouse is limited by its size. Once the storage racks have filled the existing floorspace, there’s nowhere else to go. That’s when warehouses start to become less efficient, because you’re forced to start stacking products on the floor, which makes navigating the warehouse to load and pick more time consuming, less efficient and less safe.

There are several ways of addressing the problem. But the simplest, cheapest and quickest is by adding a mezzanine floor to your Derby warehouse.

What is a mezzanine floor?

A mezzanine is a steel platform that stands on columns within the walls of your existing warehouse. You, your staff and/or customers access it via stairs. Adding the mezzanine gives you an entire extra floor to help boost the earning power of your business, because you can use the space on it and below it.

What can I use my Derby mezzanine flooring for?

For anything! The Derby mezzanine floors we install are being used for storage, for production or fulfilment areas, and as training suites, IT hubs and admin areas.

One of the biggest advantages of a mezzanine is that it allows you to take functions that took up valuable space on the ground floor (like customer showrooms, reception areas or management offices) and place them above the warehouse floor, making the warehouse a more productive space.

How big can a mezzanine floor in Derby be?

Your Derby mezzanine can be virtually any size (subject to the size of your warehouse). Most mezzanines tend to be between a third and a half the size of the existing warehouse area, but that’s not a rule, just a convention.

The new mezzanine will need to meet Building Regs and, depending on size, it may need to be fire rated. We can advise you about this when you talk to us.

Is installing a Derby mezzanine a better option than extending?

It’s certainly quicker and easier, because Derby mezzanine floors don’t require planning permission, there’s no need to prep the ground on which you’d need to extend, and there’s much less disruption to business as usual. A mezzanine is usually much cheaper too.

Then there’s always the possibility that, if you don’t own land around your premises, you won’t have anywhere to extend into. That would leave you with no option but to move – and that can be really disruptive.

Talk to us about your options now.
